The server I need to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux on does not have a floppy drive or CD-rom drive, but it has a USB port. What are the steps to configure a USB pen drive to boot and install Red Hat Enterprise Linux?
\nTo configure a USB flash\/pen drive perform the following steps:<\/p>\n

1.\tFormat the USB flash drive as one FAT partition. <\/p>\n

2. # mkdosfs \/dev\/ <\/code><\/p>\n

3.\tCopy the contents of \/RedHat\/isolinux\/ from the first installation CD to the USB flash drive. NOTE: isolinux.bin, boot.cat and TRANS.TBL can be removed or deleted. <\/p>\n

4.\tRename isolinux.cfg to syslinux.cfg. <\/p>\n

5.\tCopy \/RedHat\/images\/pxeboot\/initrd.img from the first installation CD to the USB flash drive. <\/p>\n

6.\tOPTIONAL: To configure any boot settings, edit the syslinux.cfg on the USB flash drive. For example to configure the installation to use a kickstart file shared over NFS,specify the following: <\/p>\n

7.\t# linux ks=nfs::\/\/ks.cfg<\/code><\/p>\n

8.\tMake the USB flash drive bootable. Be sure to UNMOUNT the USB flash device. <\/p>\n

9.\t# umount \/dev\/<\/code><\/p>\n

10.\t# syslinux \/dev\/<\/code><\/p>\n

11.\tInstall GRUB on the USB flash drive.<\/p>\n

12.\t# mount \/dev\/ \/path\/to\/local\/USB\/mount<\/code><\/p>\n

13.\t# grub-install --root-directory=\/path\/to\/local\/USB\/mount \/dev\/<\/code><\/p>\n

14.\tVerify that the USB flash drive has a \/boot\/grub directory. If it does not, create the directory manually. <\/p>\n

15.\t# cd \/path\/to\/USB\/local\/mount<\/code><\/p>\n

16.\t# mkdir -p \/boot\/grub<\/code><\/p>\n

17.\tCreate the grub.conf file. Below is a sample grub.conf: <\/p>\n

\tdefault=0
\n\ttimeout=5
\n\troot (hd1,0)
\n\ttitle
\n\tkernel \/vmlinuz
\n\tinitrd \/initrd.img<\/em><\/p>\n

18.\tCopy or confirm the created grub.conf file is on the \/boot\/grub\/ directory of the USB flash drive.<\/p>\n
